About the Role
As HR Advisor (Recruitment), you will play a central role in shaping a capable, sustainable, and future-focused workforce.
The position is responsible for leading end-to-end recruitment across Council, while also contributing to organisational design, position development, and workforce planning. You will partner closely with the Manager – People & Capability and operational leaders to deliver recruitment practices that are culturally appropriate, efficient, and aligned to Council priorities.
This role may be based on Palm Island or in Townsville, with travel to Palm Island as required. Preference will be given to Palm Island community members, in line with merit based recruitment practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end recruitment for all Council roles, ensuring timely, high-quality, and culturally safe processes.
- Partner with managers to understand workforce needs and develop sourcing strategies.
- Develop and review position descriptions to ensure clarity and organisational alignment.
- Manage advertising, screening, shortlisting, interviews, reference checks, and onboarding.
- Provide HR advisory support on policies, procedures, and employment legislation.
- Promote Council’s values and culture through all recruitment activities.
What We’re Looking For
- Tertiary qualification in HR, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in HR advisory and end-to-end recruitment.
- Strong understanding of employment legislation and contemporary recruitment practices.
Desirable: Experience in regional or remote communities, local government or similar regulated environment, and workforce planning.
