Cleaner (Casual)

About the Role 

In this role, you will help maintain Council facilities and public spaces so that they are clean, safe and hygienic. You will carry out general cleaning duties, use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely, follow WHS and hygiene requirements, and report any hazards or maintenance issues to your supervisor. 

You'll be required to: 

• Clean and maintain rooms, offices, public areas and service spaces to an appropriate standard.  

• Vacuum, sweep and mop floors, clean carpets, furniture and fittings.  

• Clean and disinfect bathrooms, toilets and laundry areas, replenishing supplies as required.  

• Empty bins, remove waste appropriately and replace liners.  

• Clean windows, glass doors, walls, stairwells, verandas and other assigned areas 

• Safely operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning chemicals in accordance with instructions and safety guidelines.  

• Check equipment, fixtures and lights and report faults or damage to the supervisor.  

• Maintain cleaning storage areas in a tidy and safe condition.  

• Work cooperatively with supervisors, team members and other Council staff.  

• Carry out additional duties as directed, with the employee’s skills, competence and training.  

• Follow infection control, sanitation and hygiene standards at all times.  

• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly.  

• Identify and report hazards, incidents or safety concerns promptly.  

• Comply with all Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.  

Key Responsibilities 

• You will have experience in commercial, industrial or accommodation cleaning, or the ability to rapidly acquire the required skills.  

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, sanitation standards and safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.  

• Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team.  

• Good attention to detail and time management skills.  

• Basic literacy and numeracy skills  

• Commitment to safe work practices and Council values.  

Desirable 

• Experience working in local government, hospitality or community facilities.  

• Current Queensland ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence (if required for the role)
