Executive Assistant to The Mayor and CEO

We're looking for a highly professional and trusted Executive Assistant to support both the Mayor and Chief Executive Officer. 

This is a unique role requiring exceptional integrity, discretion and judgement. You'll be entrusted with confidential information, support important governance processes, coordinate executive priorities and act as a key liaison between Council leadership, employees, community members and external stakeholders. 

Success in this role requires someone who can maintain strict confidentiality, navigate sensitive matters professionally, understand the importance of governance and operate with honesty, integrity and respect at all times. 

About the Role 

No two days are quite the same in this role. 

You'll provide high-level executive, administrative and coordination support to both the Mayor and Chief Executive Officer, ensuring their offices operate efficiently and effectively. From managing complex diaries and preparing briefing materials to coordinating meetings, travel, correspondence and stakeholder engagement, you'll play a key role in supporting Council's leadership team.  

You'll also support governance processes, maintain accurate records, coordinate executive priorities and help ensure important commitments and actions are followed through. This position requires discretion, sound judgement and the ability to confidently manage sensitive and confidential information.

  • Communicates professionally and builds positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. 

  • Maintains accurate records and pays close attention to detail. 

  • Has strong Microsoft 365 and administrative skills. 

  • Can work independently while exercising good judgement about when to escalate issues. 

  • Values respectful engagement with community, Councillors, leadership and employees.

Preference will be given to applicants who are Bwgcolman or Manbarra people, have strong cultural and community connections to Palm Island, and possess demonstrated knowledge of Palm Island protocols, community structures and cultural practices.
