The Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council (PIASC) is pleased to advise that following an extensive recruitment and evaluation process, the council resolved on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, to appoint Ms Emma Bradbury as the Council's new Chief Executive Officer.
The recruitment process was facilitated by external recruitment providers Peak Services who advertised the role on recruitment platforms across Australia, generating a high level of interest in the role. The evaluation process for the role was based on leadership, strategy, and management criteria.
Emma Bradbury has been acting in the role of Chief Executive Officer since late July 2025 when former Chief Executive Officer Michael Bissell finalised his employment contract with the Council. Prior to working at PIASC, Emma has filled Chief Executive Officer roles in Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council, Barkly Regional Council (NT), and the Murray Darling Local Government Association.
The Council looks forward to working with Emma in a permanent capacity as we create and define a strong and sustainable future for our Palm Island community.
