Palm Island to Remain in the Townsville Electoral District

Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council welcomes confirmation that Palm Island will remain within the Townsville electoral district following the release of Queensland's final electoral redistribution determination. 
 
The outcome provides certainty for the Palm Island community and ensures the Council and residents will continue to be represented within the existing electoral boundaries.
Mayor Alf Lacey said the decision was an important outcome for Palm Island.

 

“Palm Island has strong historical, social and economic connections with Townsville and we welcome confirmation that these established links will continue to be recognised through the electoral redistribution process.
Maintaining our place within the Townsville electorate provides continuity for our community and ensures Palm Island residents continue to have a clear and consistent voice in State Parliament.”

 

Council acknowledges the work undertaken throughout the redistribution process and appreciates the consideration given to communities across Queensland.

Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council remains committed to advocating for the needs and aspirations of the Palm Island community and working collaboratively with all levels of government to deliver positive outcomes for residents.
