Local Businesses

Council welcomes and encourages local residents to operate businesses on the Island.

There are a range of businesses operating on Palm Island. These range from a tavern, post office, motel (owned by Council), supermarket and food cafes.

Regular barge and air services operate between the island and the mainland.

Economic Strategy

Council supports the development of local business and has lobbied government to invest in the Island to improve services. That improvement includes the State Government Health Department building a new facility in the town precinct. Council has a masterplan to further develop the town precinct to include shopping and tourism type businesses. Council is continually looking for opportunities to apply for funding for support infrastructure such as all weather access roads, additional housing, beautification projects and water projects.

These projects provide local employment which in turn support the development of local business activity.
